يعد هذا الكتاب من أبرز أعمال ابن النعيمي في مجال التراجم، إذ رتب تراجم علماء بلاد الشام ومصر وفقا لتواريخ المواليد وليس الوفيات كما هو شائع، مما يمنح القارئ منظورا جديدا لفهم تطور الشخصيات على محور زمني مسبوق . ضم حوالي 249 ترجمة لعلماء وفلاسفة وفقهاء عاشوا في أواخر العصر المملوكي، واعتمد في الكثير منها على مصادر خاصة تضمن له تفردا بالمعلومات، واحتوى الكتاب على تراجم لم تذكر في مؤلفات أخرى . وقد نشرت الطبعة المحققة بعد دراسة معمقة شملت أصل المخطوط وتحليل الأسلوب والمناهج وبيان ظروف التأليف، بينما احتفظت الدراسة بطابعه كثمسودة لم يعدلها المؤلف، مما يعزز أصالة النص كمصدر تاريخي فريد.
