يقدم الأستاذ عمر مسقاوي في هذا الكتاب شهادته حول علاقته بالمفكر مالك بن نبي وكتبه وفكره فيما يتعلق بالفترة الأولى من حياة بن نبي وهي المرحلة التي يتحدث فيها مالك عن حياته في الجزائر وكيف كانت طفولته وعلاقته بأهله وأصدقائه، وجماعة عبد الحميد في باديس والبشير الإبراهيمي والتيارات الفكرية المتأثرة بالحضارة الغربية ثم إنتقل للحديث عن حياته في باريس عندما كان طالبا في المعهد التقني عام 1945م ثم عن معاناته في أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية وخلال احتلال الألمان لفرنسا ثم تحريرها ودخول الجيش الأمريكي في باريس تشكلت معالم فكر مالك عن الاستعمار والقابلية للاستعمار.
