ميز سليمان، النبي والملك، بحكمته وقوله الشعر والأمثال، فنال شهرة فائقة بين شعوب وأديان كثيرة، وربما لم توجد شخصية تفوقه شهرة، أو خلود، ذكر على مرور الأزمان. فقد كان لأسفاره مكانتها في الكتاب المقدس بين اليهود والمسيحيين، وذكر العهد الجديد بفخر أن السيد المسيح من ذرية سليمان، وأشاد بحكمته. كذلك كان لأخبار معجزاته وقدراته التي حباه بها الله مكانها في آيات القرآن الكريم؛ حيث وضع سليمان في مرتبة النبوة، ووصف بأجل الوصف، على عكس العهد القديم الذي عده ملكا، مارس كل شرور البشر، بما فيها الكفر باالله.
