يتحدث الكتاب عن المرجع في تاريخ وتقانات فن الحفر والطباعة في العالم حيث يعتبر فن الحفر والطباعة (الغرافيك) من الفنون الجديدة بشكل عام بالمقارنة مع غيره من أنواع الفنون التشكيلية الأخرى كالرسم والتصوير والنحت والعمارة وغيره من الفنون ولقد صدرت في كثير من بلدان العالم العديد من الأبحاث الفنية والدراسات النقدية والتاريخية التي تتحدث عن هذا الفن لكن وبكل أسف لم يترجم منها إلى اللغة العربية إلا القليل جدا، مما أوجد صعوبات كثيرة أمام أجيال الشباب والباحثين عن المعرفة والفنانين والدارسين المتخصصين بهذا النوع من أنواع الفنون.
