يمثل برغسون أحد الوجوه المؤسسة للفلسفة الفرنسية المعاصرة، وهو بلور فكره بالاعتماد على تحليل نقدي للمناهج وللنتائج العلمية لعصره؛ وتطمح فلسفته ذات الطابع الروحي، إلى أن تكون بمنزلة \"عودة واعية ومتعقلة إلى معطيات الحدس\"، التي تمكننا وحدها من التطابق مع الحركة الحرة والهالقة للحياة والروح. أصدر \"برغسون\" وهو في سن الثلاثين كتابه: \"بحث في المعطيات المباشرة للوعي\" الذي يمثل محطة من أجل إستقصاء الوعي الذي نمتلكه بصدد أنانا، كما مهمة في مسار عمله، كونه ي طبق فيه منهجا جديدا يعرض الملامح الأولية لما سوف يشكل لاحقا نظريته الخاصة بالمعرفة.
