نهاية الحداثة تعني، بصورة عامة، بداية حقبة جديدة، اصطلح على تسميتها ما بعد الحداثة. غير أن الانتقال من حقبة (فكرية) إلى حقبة أخرى يتطلب تحديد أسس الحقبة التي انتهت لتبيان ما هو الذي انتهى وتحديد أركان الحقبة التي نشأت لكشف الآتي وإدراكه وبهذا المعنى، قد يكون هذا التحول تقدما أو تطورا أو تحسينا وتجديدا أو تجاوزا أو حتى إلغاء وفي هذا السياق يندرج كتاب جاني فاتيمو نهاية الحداثة ليصف النوع الذي يحكم هذا التحول ويرسم معالم العصر (الجديد)
