يحتوي الكتاب ترجمة لحوالي (1500) علما من أعلام اليمن بين سلاطين وأمراء وعلماء وفقهاء شافعية وأحناف وبعض الصحابة الذين قدموا إلى اليمن وأصحاب الوظائف والعلماء المعاصرين للمؤلف كما يحتوي الكتاب رسائل أدبية ومقطوعات شعرية لأدباء وشعراء لا يعلم عند مصير دواوينهم شيئا ومعومات وفيرة عن الحياة الفكرية في اليمن ومعلومات أخرى تتعلق بالأوضاع السياسية والاجتماعية ً خاصا أفرده والاقتصادية خلال القرنين السابع والثامن الهجريين.
