ترجع أصول هذه السيرة إلى أحد أهم المؤرخين والإخباريين وكتاب التاريخ ورواة الأخبار والوقائع والسير الأوائل سيف بن عمر التميمي المتوفي عام 180 هـ. تقريبا وتعد هذه السيرة أول عمل تاريخي يؤرخ للأحداث التاريخية ويستعرض المعارك العسكرية التي وقت أحداثها بعد وفاة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وجاءت أحداث هذه السيرة عن معارك اليمامة خصوصا البلدات الواقعة على وادي حنيفة ضمن بلاد العارض وتفاصيلها وأبرز الوقائع الحربية التي جرت فيها مع تحديد مواضع تلك المعارك وأسماء بلدانها التي ما زال كثير منها معروفا حتى اليوم.
