يؤرخ هذا الكتاب لتجربة داعش، ويحلل ظروف نشأة هذا التنظيم والخلفيات الاجتماعية والعقيدية لقادته وعناصره، والعوامل الاقتصادية والسياسية والاجتماعية التي دفعت الناس نحو خياراته، وبخاصة تصاعد الموجة الطائفية في المنطقة وتعمّق مظاهر الفقر والبطالة والتهميش مقابل تحطّم مؤسسات الدولة الوطنية في العراق وسورية تحديداً. كما يتناول الكتاب تجربة هذا التنظيم في إدارة دولته واختلافه مع التنظيمات السلفية الجهادية الأخرى والتباين بينه وبين تنظيم \"القاعدة\"، وينتهي الكتاب إلى قراءة تحليلية لمستقبل داعش.
