تضمن الكتاب ٢٤ مقالا متنوعا، فالمقالات السبعة الأولى كانت قضايا في جانب الثقافة، ثم تلتها ستة مقالات عن القراءة وما تحدثه من آثار إيجابية وتغيير في حياة القارئ وأما المقالات الأحد عشر المتبقية فقد سرت نحو قضايا الجانب الفكري. وما برزت هذه المقالات -التي كانت الزبدة من المشاهدات والتجارب والقراءات للشخصية لهذه الحياة- إلا نتيجة الرغبة في الإصلاح ولم يحدث إلا بتوفيق من المولى القدير فتمثل قوله تعالى: (إن أريد إلا الإصلاح ما استطعت وما توفيقي إلا بالله) والذي يميز أغلب المقالات أنه اختتمها بومضات بعضها لأدباء أو مفكرين أو علماء وبعضها للمؤلف نفسه وهي في مجملها خلاصة للمقال.
