يعد هذا الكتاب هو الكتاب الأول الذي يتناول سيرة الحياة الشاملة للسياسي الإيراني الأبرز والأكثر جدلا في القرن العشرين. الكتاب يستمد من كم ضخم من المصادر الجديدة حول مصدق والتي نشرت منذ ثورة 1978. وينثل المؤلف هوما كاتوزيان حسا واضحا عن شخص مصدق وحجم المسائل السياسية التي واجهته. كان محمد مصدق أول المناضلين العظيمين الكارزميين المعادين للاستعمار في عالم ما بعد الحرب. وكان في صراع مستمر مع الغرب بصفته رئيس وزراء إيران في أوائل الخمسينات، وفي عام 1953م إزالته الاستخبارات الأميركية المركزية من المنصب عن طريق انقلاب عزز سلطات الشاه المطلقة. هذه السيرة الشاملة تضع حياة مصدق ومسيرته المهنية مقابل ولادة وتطور الحركة الشعبية في إيران، فهي تقدم رواية مفصلة عن خلفية مصدق وتشكلة السياسي وتتفحص تاريخ الحركة الشعبية منذ سقوط مصدق في عام 1953 وحتى وفاته 1967.
