هو من أجل كتب المذهب في تاريخ الدولة الرستمية وتراجم علماء المذهب، غير أنه لم يتطرق إلى أحداث الخليفتين عثمان بن عفان وعلي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنهم، وهي التي تعرف بأحداث الفتنة أو تاريخ الفتنة، أو الفتنة الكبرى، ورأى البرادي أن ذلك مخل بكتاب الطبقات، على إعتبار أن تلك الأحداث هي الأساس الذي افترقت عليه الأمة إلى فرق ومذاهب، لذلك فهو استدراك على كتاب الطبقات بذكر أحداث الفتنة الكبرى، حيث أن تلك الأحداث تشكل الجانب الأكبر والمهم من كتاب الجواهر، وقد سابق المؤلف بعض أحداث السيرة النبوية على صاحبها أفضل الصلاة وأتم التسليم بصورة موجزة، عن الخليفتين أبي بكر الصديق وعمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنهم، كمدخل إلى ذكر أحداث الفتنة وأيضاً ساق تاريخاً موجزا الكبرى بصورة مفصلة.
