هناك عدة تعاريف للتربية ومن هذه التعاريف ما يعرف به اللغويون في معاجمهم للفظة التربية بأنها \"إنشاء الشيء حالا فحالا إلى حد التمام\" إما التعريف الإصطلاحي للتربية : فإنه مجموعة من العمليات يستطيع بها المجتمع إن ينقل معارفه وأهدافه المكتسبة ليحافظ على بقائه، وهي أيضا تعني في نفس الوقت التجديد المستمر لهذا التراث وللافراد الذين يحملونه فمن هنا فهي عملية نمو ليست لها أية غالة إلا للمزيد من النمو فهي تعتبر الحياة نفسها بنموها وتجددها.
