يتناول الكتاب السخرية فهي فن أدبي متميز مهمته مهاجمة الأوضاع الراهنة في السياسة والأخلاق والسلوك والتفكير وقد وجد هذا الفن منذ أن وجدت الإنسانية ومنذ أن عرف الإنسان أن هذا نقص وهذا كمال فقد وجدت في الشعر العربي القديم من جاهلي وإسلامي وعباسي وأندلسي ووجدت كذلك في مصر عبر عصورها التاريخية المتعاقبة وقد أدت هناك دورا بارزا ومهما في تعرية الواقع المؤلم والكشف عما فيه من سلبيات سياسية أو اجتماعية أو شخصية وفي العصر الحديث في زمن الاحتلال كانت السخرية بمنزلة معرض رائع لقضايا الأمة.
