في النقد الأدبي قديمه يعد المنهج التأثري من أكثر المناهج النقدية استعمالا واستخداما من الدراسة والبحث، سواء من حيث التأريخ له أو من حيث وحديثه، ومع ذلك لم ينل حظا التأصيل والكشف عن مبادئه وأسسه وعوامل ظهوره، وأقطابه من القدماء والمحدثين. ولذلك حاولت في هذا الكتاب أن أميط اللئام عن بعض جوانبه العامة من خلال الناقد العربي محمد مندوب. تأثريا وقد نظرت في نقدنا العربي الحديث فوجدت مؤلفات الدكتور محمد مندور تكتسي طابعا أكثر من مؤلفات غيره من النقاد، فأثرت أن يكون تطبيقي لهذا المنهج عن مؤلفاته النقدية. وإذا كانت هناك بحوث ووسائل جامعية حول آراء محمد مندور النقدية، ونظرته للشعر \"كأصول النقد المسرحي\" و\"نظرية الشعر\" و\"تطور آرائه النقدية\" فإنها لم تمس الجانب التأثري من نقده أكبر من مؤلفاته النقدية.
