كتبت مواضيع هذا الكتاب في فترة زمنية غير قصيرة (1967-1977) ومع ذلك يبدو الكتاب وحدة متكاملة متسقة لأنه يدور حول موضوعين فقط : الأول هو الهزيمة الكبرى التي عانتها وتعانيها الأمة العربية منذ وعد بلفور وحتى اليوم، والثاني هو نقد الهزيمة نقدا معمقا، والذهاب ربما لأول مرة من نقد السياسة إلى نقد المجتمع في تفسير هذه الهزيمة. في هذا النقد حاولنا أن نذهب إلى الجذور، حاولنا أن نكون راديكاليين.
