يستعرض الكاتب قصة الصحافة والسلطة في مصر من عام 1900 إلى 1949 بعد أن روى في الجزء الأول من الملك والكتابة قصة الصحافة بين عامي 1950 وحتى عام 1999 يميز هذا الجزء عن بعض المنسيين في تاريخ الصحافة رغم عظمة دورهم وحجم تأثيرهم ومن بينهم أمين الرافعي وأحمد حلمي وعبد العزيز جاويش ومحمد حسين هيكل وغيرهم علاوة على رموز الصحافة الكبار أمثال فاطمة اليوسف ومحمد التابعي ومصطفى أمين ومحمد حسنين هيكل.
