تحكي الرواية بعض من الواقع الجزائري في فترة ما حيث كثرت الفواحش وأصبح جل إهتمام الناس يقع حول إشباع غرائزهم. تقع جل أحداث القصة في إحدى المنازل حيث تقام حفلات ليلية يجتمع فيها الأغنياء وأصحاب المكانة العالية مثل الحاج كيان المعروف بشدة تدينه وغنى ثقافته. في يوم ما، اقترح الحاج كيان على العنابية صاحبة البيت إقامة حفل ختان لأطفال الدشرة الفقراء بهدف جمع مال من تبرعات الحاضرين من مختلف أنحاء الجزائر. سمي هذا الفرح الذي أخذ سبع أيام وسبع ليالي بعرس بغل.
