تناول الكتاب حيث سعى د. خالد الدخيل في هذا الكتاب-وهو في الأصل أطروحة دكتوراه-إلى تقديم رؤية مختلفة وجديرة بالإهتمام. وقد أكد أن الظروف الاجتماعية ساهمت في تعزيز دعوة الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب لنشوء الحركة الوهابية. فالقرى والبلدات النجدية في السابق كانت تقوم على أساس قبلي ؛ أما اليوم، تفكك النظام القبلي وتشتت أعضاء القبيلة الواحدة وتوزعوا على مدن وقرى مختلفة، فحلت بالتالي سلطة الدولة محل سلطة القبيلة، وتماهى الدين مع السياسة، وبرزت الدعوة إلى التخلص من الشرك واعتماد التوحيد.
