هذا كتاب \"أدب الكاتب\" الذي صنفه وقدم له أبو محمد عبد الله بن مسلم بن قتيبة الدينوري، النحوي اللغوي العالم، وتحدث فيه في أصول الكتابة وآدابها ومعارفها، وذلك بعد تقسيمه مادة دراسته على مقدمة وأربعة أقسام، في المقدمة تحدث عن كتابه ومضمونه ومادته وفي القسم الأول تناول مسائل في المعرفة. أما القسم الثاني فتطرق لموضوع تقديم اليد. وتحدث في القسم الثالث عن تقويم اللسان، أما في القسم الرابع والأخير \"كتاب الأبنية\" فتحدث عن أربعة موضوعات هي : أبنية الأفعال ومعاني أبنية الأفعال، وأبنية الأسماء ومعاني أبنية الأسماء، وهو في كل موضوع يهتم بذكر بعض الأمثال والشواهد كما ويعتني بإدراج تعليقات مهمة وشروحات على بعض الكلمات الغامضة\".
