يضم الكتاب الكتب العشرة لفيتروفيوس لأول مرة حيث ضمت جميع الجوانب الفلسفية والنظرية والتطبيقية والإنشائية والتخطيطية، حتى أصبحت فيما بعد مرجعا للأجيال التي جاءت من بعده، حيث أستند عليها كل من (البرتي) و(بلاديو) في عصر النهضة وقد تضمنت الأجزاء العشرة لمجموعة كتب فيتروفيوس : ست مبادئ أساسية عن العمارة، نعددها في هذه المقدمة القصيرة كالآتي : نظرية الشكل بنسبه المستوحاة من الطبيعة والمقياس الإنساني ومنها استعمال الوحدة القياسية (الموديول الطولي) وفي جميع أجزاء المبنى وثم تنظيم العلاقة بين المسقط الأفقي والواجهات والاعتماد على المنطق في التصميم أو التخطيط.
