Overview
عادل» ابن طبقة الحكام في تونس، ظهر أولا في رواية «عائشة»، شخصًا ينزع إلى العزلة والتأمل. وتخطفه أفكاره وكتابته مما سواها. وعندما أيقن أن الحبيب بورقيبة ورفاقه يمثلون مستقبل الأمة، اشترك في حزبهم، لكنهم أبقوا على الشك في ولائه بحكم انتمائه العائلي. فآثر عندها أن يعود إلى الهامش، يقضي وقته في القمار والحب، ويحضر ندوة هنا أو لقاء هناك. حتى جاء يوم 9 أبريل 1938، اليوم المشهود في تاريخ الحركة الوطنية في تونس. يومها تم القبض على «عادل» في إحدى صالات القمار، بينما كانت تهمته الحقيقية أنه شوهد في إحدى المظاهرات التي عمّت البلاد يومها. فكان ذلك التاريخ إيذانًا بالتغيير في تونس، كما هو بالضبط إيذان بالتغيير في حياة بطل هذه الرواية.
