رسالة من أب مصري إلى الرئيس الأمريكي ترومان» كانت الصيحة الأولى التي أطلقها عبد الرحمن الشرقاوي ليعلن ريادته لحركة شعرية جديدة. نشرت القصيدة مع قصائد أخرى في كتاب مستقل عام 3591، فحقق نجاحا هائلا وفتح الباب على مصراعيه للتجارب الشعرية الجديدة كي تفصح عن نفسها. كان جديدا تماما أن يستحضر شاعر معاصر الأحداث والوقائع الكبرى في ذلك الوقت ليصوغ منها قصيدة ؛ يتوجه فيها بالخطاب إلى رئيس أكبر دولة مهيمنة على العالم كله ويقول له إنه يخشى على مستقبل ابنته الصغيرة الذي هو مستقبل كل أطفال العالم الذين هددتهم وأرعبتهم ما خلفته القنبلة الذرية على هيروشيما ونجازاكي من دمار مروع. حين كتب الشرقاوي قصيدته هذه والقصائد الأخرى الموازية لها، كان فارسا من فرسان الكلمة، مناضلا شجاعا يسعى إلى تحرير الوطن والمواطن وتحقيق العدل الاجتماعي.
