\"مملكة غاردينا\" وجدت ولم تزل في دنيانا المعاصرة. وهي نموذج واقعي يحاكي كثيرا من أنظمة ودول العالم الثالث. وللضرورة السياسية، وبسبب الحساسية التي قد يثيرها التشبيه الفعلي للجغرافيا والتاريخ، فقد آثر الكاتب، وعلى ما يبدو لي شخصيا، أن يخلط الواقع مع الافتراض، والحقيقة مع الخيال، وأن يبتدع بعض الأسماء. ما زالت قصة غاردينا تحتل حيزا كبيرا من الحديث اليومي لقبائل الصحراء. فقد عاشت هذه القبائل بسلام نسبي حتى أتى المحتل الأوروبي في نهاية القرن الثامن عشر، وعاث بينهم فسادا وفتنة. ففرق الأخ عن أخيه وقطع الأرض إلى غربية وشرقية، وخلق فيها دولا من شعوب دخيلة لم يكن لها وجود في المنطقة، وزرع الفرقة بين أهلها، وقتل الآلاف منهم خدمة لأطماعه المادية.
