في هذا الكتاب، قيمة الشيء هي مدى اهتمام الإنسان به وكل شيء لا يهتم الإنسان به لا قيمة له. فالقيمة في واقع أمرها علاقة وليست كائنا في ذاته، مثلها مثل كلمة ابن لا معنى لها إلا أن تربط كيانا بكيان آخر وكلمة قيمة لا يتهيأ لها معناها الكامل إلا إذا ربطت بين طرفين، فحين يقول قائل : \"لهذه الهدية قيمة عندي\" أصبحت كلمة قيمة هذه وصلة بين الهدية وبين القائل. ولكن هذا الحديث لا يفضي إليك بكل ما تحمله كلمة قيمة من معنى وإنما يكتفي بالإيماءة ولا يصل إلى التفصيل. فهذا الكتاب يفتح الآفاق لفيلسوف العلوم الطبيعية والاجتماعية ولعلم الجمال ولفلسفة التربية والفلسفة الدينية ويحاول في إخلاص أن يوجد اتحادا ونظاما بين هذه الميادين. إنه كتاب يستشرف هذه العلوم جميعا ويصل بين أطرافها في عمق ودراية. إنه كتاب لابد وأن يقرأ.
