\"أوسكار ويلد\" شخصية أدبية فذة حملت بذور الفكر الاشتراكي والروح الثورية والنقدية الاجتماعية التي ورثتها عن المجتمع الايرلندي كما ظهر ذلك عنده في مسرحيته المعروفة بعنوان \"العدميون أو فير\" وفي عدد من أقاصيصه القصيرة مثل \"المارد\" الأناني وكان أوسكار أيضا يمثل النزعة الإنسانية المثالية التي تعتمد العاطفة الذاتية والمواقف المأساوية كما في قصته الرومانسية \"العندليب والزهرة\" حول هذه السيرة الذاتية لهذا الكاتب يدور هذا الكتيب من سلسلة \"أعلام الفكر العالمي\" فيتحدث عن حياته ونشأته ثقافته وشخصيته وأعماله الأدبية الكارثة التي حلت به ودخوله السجن ثم يتوقف عند بعض أعمال أوسكار ويلد كقصيدته \"ريدنك جيل\" وبعض القصائد الأخرى التي لم تنشر من قبل وهي هنا تنشر لأول مرة.
