كتاب يتحدث عن ما بين الحقيقة والخيال وما بين الواقع والوهم ظل الإنسان يكابد في حياته منذ الأزل، تارة يعيش الواقع بما ينطوي عليه من شدائد وتارات أخرى يخرج من واقعه إلى آماله التي يوحي بها خياله ويبقى الصراع قائما بتوالد الأسئلة التي تستعصي على العقل لتجاوزها حدود المعرفة، فيجنح الفكر إتباعا لما يتراءى له في أقاصي الآفاق، فحينا يلحق الظن بقبس وأحيانا كثيرة يؤوب خالي الوفاض، فيلجأ المرء للاحتيال بما أوتي من توهم العلم في نفسه، فابتدر طرائق استنها منهاجا فاستقرت عادة ثم ما لبثت أن أصبحت تقليدا لتترسخ قيما ثمة تتحول إلى عقائد لتنقضها عقائد أخرى استجدت بعدها لتعود الأولى أساطير، فبقيت الأشد قوة على حالها نقلا واعتقادا شعبيا لا زال متبعا ولجأت الأقل شأنا إلى مسمى الخرافة والأضعف جذبتها الألسن باتجاه الحكاية.
