هذه الرواية هي أحدث روايات الكاتب العالمي جابرييل جارسيا ماركيز الذي حصل على جائزة نوبل للآداب سنة 1982، والذي قرأ له الكثيرون من قراء العربية : مائة عام من الغزلة، وخريف البطريرك، وأرنديرا البريئة وقصص أخرى والتي نشرت تحت عنوان أجمل رجل غريق في العالم. على أن الرواية التي تحتويها دفتا هذا الكتاب هي آخر رواياته، أعني أحداثها، فقد نشرت بالإسبانية وترجمت إلى الإنجليزية في أواخر عام 1982. وبالرغم من أن هذه الرواية ستحظى بشهرة كبيرة لأن مؤلفها هو ماركيز إلا أن الكثيرين قد يعتبرونها أقل مستوى من مائة عام من العزلة، أشهر رواياته.
