تتلخص الرواية حول عائلة تصاب بلعنة الجرائم والأحقاد بسبب الابن الذي ولد وعليه علامة خطأ من أم تم استهدافها بالخطأ أيضا وأب مهووس بتنفيذ وعده والانتقام من القرية عن طريق النساء لما خرج من سجنه وعاد يطرق باب منزل المرأة التي أحبها أعواما طويلة ولم يسل عنها ويجد أمامه امرأة أخرى وملامح مستفسرة وملامح محايدة لا تحمل أي حب أو كره كانت هذه المرأة شقيقة «فيلومينا» نفذ وعده إذ إن التي أمامه امرأة بكل الأحوال ولقد تملكه الهوس بـ «فيلومينا» ولم يفرق كثيرا لم يفكر أنها قضت نحبها وهذه هي أختها.
