يبدأ المؤلف بالتسلسل في ذكر تاريخ واسم من ولي مكة منذ فتحها إلى خلافة عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه، ثم ذكر من ولي مكة في خلافة عثمان رضي الله عنه. ثم ذكر من ولي مكة في خلافة أمير المؤمنين علي كرم الله وجهه ويتابع المؤلف في ذكر ولاة الأمويين على مكة المكرمة وذكر ولاة العباسيين على مكة وذكر دخول القرامطة مكة وذكر دولة الأشراف بمكة وذكر أمراء مكة الملقبين بالهوامش وذكر أشراف مكة في عهد العثمانيين وحتى نشوب الحرب العالمية الأولى واتصال الحسين بن علي بالحلفاء، حيث أعلن الحرب على الأتراك وتمكن من قيادة البلاد العربية بثورة عرفت بالثورة العربية الكبرى (العام 1916)
