يعالج الكاتب في كتابه العودة إلى الأهوار تاريخ الأهوار العراقية بحيث قام بسرد تفاصل رحلته اليها مدققا في حياة سكانها الاجتماعية والفردية وقد تطرق كافن يونغ غالي طبيعة الأهوار وجمالها الساحر لقد كتب كافن يونغ بتاثر شديد وبعاطفة لما كان يحمله من حب لسكان الأهوار ولمنطقتهم الجميلة التي لا يعرف السكان الأصليون تاريخها ولكنهم يعرفون الأصالة العربية وحسن الضيافة فقد كتب المؤلف مدافعا عن أصالتهم وعن حقوقهم التي أهدرتها الحرب العراقية الإيرانية.
