يعرض جمال عبد الستار توفيق في كتاب \"متى نفهم حقيقة الغرب\" كيفية وصول الدول الغربية لمرحلة كبيرة من التقدم العلمى والتكنولوجى ولديها حضارة عظيمة تسود بها العالم الآن لكن هذه الحضارة بنيت وشيدت في بعض أعمدتها على حضارات أخرى أخذت عنها ومنها الحضارة الإسلامية العظيمة كما قامت هذه الحضارة من بين ما قامت على ثروات ودماء شعوب أخرى كانت بعض الدول الغربية قد قامت باستعمارها ومنها الدول العربية والإسلامية ويرى جمال عبد الستار توفيق فى كتابه أنه رغم تحرر الشعوب من ذلك الاستعمار فإنه ما زال موجودا بأنماط وأشكال أخرى يهيمن بها على مقدرات وممتلكات الشعوب التى يسيطر عليها فيرسم لها السياسات ويستغل فيها الثروات ويفرض بها سيطرته على كل شىء.
