هذا الكتاب جمع الكثير من ألوان العديد، هذا اللون من الأدب الشعبي الذي كاد أن ينقرض، فقد كان العديد منتشرا وشائعا حتى وقت قريب، وقد بدأ الآن في حكم المنقرض لانصراف النساء عن التعديد في المآتم، ولم يبقى من مظاهر حزنهن على الموتى إلا المظاهر العادية من بكاء أو ولولة أو نحو ذلك والعديد متداول في شعوب عربية غير مصر ولهجات الشعوب العربية -رغم أنها تدور في فلك اللغة العربية- إلا أن بينها اختلافا كبيرا، حتى أن كثير من الكلمات العامية في لهجة شعب عربي قد لا يفهمها أبناء شعب عربي آخر.
