هذا كتاب الصناعيتين لمؤلفه أبي هلال الحسن بن عبد الله بن سهل العسكري ولد في عسكر مكرم (من كور الأهواز) واليها نسبته وانتقل إلى بغداد والبصرة وخلف كثيرا من الكتب، منها: جمهرة المثال والصناعتين وديوان المعاني والمصون في الأدب والوسائل وغيرها مما يدل على اطلاع واسع وذهن ناقد ويرى ياقوت أنه توفى سنة خمس وتسعين وثلاثمائة. أما كتابه الذي نقدم له الصناعتين: الكتابة والشعر؛ فقد استعان في تأليفه بجل ما كتب سابقوه ممن عالجوا مثل موضوعه. ونذكر من هؤلاء ابن سلام في كتابه طبقات الشعراء والجاحظ في كتابه البيان والتبين وابن قتيبة في كتابه المعاني الكبير وابن المعتز في كتابه البديع وقدامه في كتابه نقد الشعر، والمادي في كتابه الموازنة والقاضي الجرجاني في كتابه الوساطة بين المتنبي وخصومه. وقد استطاع أبو هلال أن يعرض لنا زبدة هذه الكتب في كتابه حتى أنه ليجعلنا نكاد نستغني عنها جميعا. الإمضاء علي محمد البجاوي محمد أبو الفضل إبراهيم.
