يخاطب طارق رمضان في كتابه هذا \"الإصلاح الجذري\" المجتمعات الإسلامية في الشرق والغرب على السواء ويدعوهم إلى إصلاح جذري قائم على التحول ومتسلح بالوسائل الروحية والفكرية والعلمية للتعامل مع الواقع والإبحار في ميادين المعرفة كافة استعدادا لمواجهة التحديات الاجتماعية والسياسية والفلسفية والأخلاقية وفي هذا الصدد يقترح طارق رمضان ثلاث أطروحات الأولى إعادة النظر في طبيعة الإصلاح والتكيف مع تطور المجتمعات والعلوم والعالم بغية الوصول إلى التغيير الجذري المنشود والثانية إعادة النظر في جغرافية أصول الفقه ومصادره وتصنيفاته والعمل على دمج المعارف الإنسانية والأخلاق التطبيقية أما الثالثة فهي العمل على تحقيق الانسجام بين علماء النصوص وعلماء الواقع.
