في هذا الكتاب نجد أن هناك تتضارب الآراء بين الباحثين إلى حد بعيد عند بحث أصول فلسفة أفلوطين فمنهم من يحاول أن يرد كل فكرة له إلى أصول في الفلسفات أو العقائد السابقة ويرى أنها كانت فلسفة تلفيقية بحث ومنهم من ينكر ذلك ويؤكد أن فلسفته كانت أصيلة كل الأصالة كما يرى البعض فلي فلسفته اتجاها دينيا صوفيا غريبا عن التيار العقلي الذي سار فيه التفكير اليوناني.
