هدف الكتاب إلى تسليط الضوء على الطرق والأساليب والاستراتيجيات التي يمكن استخدامها لتعليم وتعلم كل فئة من فئات ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة مع التركيز على طرق تدريس الدراسات الاجتماعية مشيرا إلى بعض التطبيقات التي تسهم وتوضح تلك العملية وذلك من خلال ثلاثة فصول ؛ تضمن الأول استراتيجية التدريس التبادلي، وتطبيقاتها ؛ حيث استعرض مفهوم التدريس التبادلي وتطبيقاته واستراتيجياته الفرعية والأسس التي تقوم عليه ومميزاته وطرق تقويمه مع الإشارة إلى نموذج لطريقة استخدام تلك الاستراتيجية، بينما تناول الفصل الثاني طرق واستراتيجيات التدريس لذوي الإعاقة البصرية وتطبيقاتها ؛ من خلال تعريف الإعاقة البصرية وأنواعها والشروط المعيارية التي يجب أن تتوافر في معلم ذوي الإعاقة البصرية والمهارات التي يحتاجها المعاق بصريا وطرق وأساليب تدريس ذوي الإعاقة البصرية، في حين يناقش الفصل الثالث منهج تحليل المهمة في التعليم المباشر وتطبيقاته.
