تعتبر مذكرات اللواء ركن «الصديق أحمد حسين البنا» جزءا من تاريخ السودان الحديث حيث كان قائدا للقيادة الجنوبية في الأعوام 1982 م 1983 م، وهو في غاية الأهمية للعسكريين والسياسيين، وصناع الأمن القومي والباحثين لأنه عصارة تجربة شخصية، ولأنه كان قائدا للفرقة الأولى الجنوبية، وهو عام ولادة الحركة الشعبية لتحرير السودان، والتي استنزفت وأنهكت الوضع السياسي السوداني إلى أن انتهى إلى ثورة الإنقاذ، وقد قدم اللواء البنا \"فذلكة تاريخية جيدة تعتبر بانوراما في تاريخ السودان منذ ممالك نبتة وحتى الآن\".
