Overview
Flood is as disastrous event for many areas in the world that has severe effect on the communities. Recently, floods frequently increase over the whole world. This study conducted in Residential area of Wadi-Soba located in the Eastern part of Khartoum State, Sudan. The study aimed to investigate the causes and impacts of flood, to help in appropriate decisions making for integrated flood management. IN addition, the study attempted to generate inundation hazard map of floods extent. Digital elevation model (DEM), rainfall, soil and land cover data of the areas were used to analyze the flood risk. ArcGIS 10.4, Global Mapper 2016 and HEC-RAS 4.1.0 software were used to manipulate the data. The results indicated that the water catchment was characterized by very sparse vegetation cover with a clayey sand soil, and slightly steep slope. On the other hand, runoff value found to be 12093 m3. Although this study does not attempt to understand the assessment of damage perfectly, it attempted to draw a map of the area that was inundated by the flood and the distribution of the depth of water over the area. Accordingly, the results of the study give the methods applied in conducting them the merit of being an ideal tool for extending flood waters or drawing inundation maps.
