إن نزعة التدين متأصلة في أعماق النفس البشرية. الغريزة الدينية شائعة بين الأجناس البشرية حتى الأكثر همجية وبدائية. الدين ظاهرة بشرية متأصلة في الإنسان أينما وجد؛ لذلك نرى كيف انعكس الارتباك في تعريفات الدين على محاولات عديدة لتأسيس مفهوم صحيح له. هذه محاولة لتقديم تعريف للدين في الفكر اليهودي والإسلامي والمقارنة بينهما. تكمن أهمية البحث في تسليط الضوء على تعريف الدين في الفكر اليهودي والإسلامي والمقارنة بينهما من خلال دارسة النصوص الدالة على ذلك من كتبهم، ومصادرهم، وفكرهم، وعلمائهم.
