Overview
Science 2.0 aims at enhancing the necessary 21st century skills; cooperation, creativity ,critical thinking and problem solving. As a proponent of this ideology, the Minstery of Education and the Egyptian knowledge Bank have established a partnership with the American institution Discovery Education, which is a leading institution in producing educational electronic content. This partnership is aiming at enhancing science teaching in Egypt and providing the Egyptian learners with learning tools that triggers their scientific curiosity and support their learning at school and at home. Thus the current study aims to evaluate the content of Discovery Education educational site in the light of Science 2.0 . Thus, the following tools are devised : a list of criteria for evaluating electronic content in the light of Science 2.0, and a list of technical and educational criteria that should be provided through the site educational videos. The study follows a descriptive methodology as it analyses the electronic content of the videos provide by the site Discovery Education for the three educational stages. The total number of analysed videos are (142) for primary stage, (152) for preparatory stage and (196) for secondary stage. The study results were as follows: ● Discovery Education site content does not fulfill criteria for evaluating electronic content in the light of Science 2.0 above 75% in general or in each criteron except for the criterion of the possiblity of accessing the electronic content. ● 75% of the site videos don't fufill the criteria of intellectual properties , educational aims, evaluation and interactivity. ● 75% of the site videos fufill the educational and technical criteria nine points : title, picture, sound, text, usage, duration, scientific content, educational activities, learner. Based on these results the study offers a suggested vision for developing Discovery Education site content in the light of Science 2.0.
