Overview
منذ انتهاء الحرب البونيه الثانية حوالي عام 200 قبل الميلاد، ظهر تطوراً كبيراً في المجتمع الروماني، وتأثرت مختلف جوانب الحياة بذلك، سواء كان اجتماعيًا أو اقتصاديًا أو فكريًا، وتحول المجتمع الروماني إلى مجتمع تجاري مفتوح، وانتشرت الثقافة الإغريقية فيه. وإذا كنا نرى أن هذه العوامل ساهمت في تطور المجتمع الروماني، فإننا نجد أن قواعده القديمة التي كانت تقوم على الشكلية لم تعد قادرة على مواجهة حاجات الناس والتأقلم مع التطورات الفكرية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية التي أصابته.
