يعنى هذا البحث بدراسة مصطلح وتاريخ القراءات العشر الصغرى والكبرى، محاولا الإجابة عن تساؤلات منها: هل المصطلح دارج عند المتقدمين؟ ومتى ظهرت هذه المصطلحات؟ وتأتي أهمية دراسته من تواتر القراءات العشر الصغرى والكبرى، وعناية المتقدمين في القراءات العشر الصغرى، وتنوع مصطلحات القراءات العشر، وعناية المتأخرين في القراءات العشر الكبرى، وحاجة المقرئين لمعرفة مصطلحات القراءات، وقد قسم البحث إلى مقدمة وثلاثة مباحث، تطرق المبحث الأول لتاريخ علم القراءات، وتم تناول القراءات العشر الصغرى في المبحث الثاني، في حين خصص المبحث الثالث للقراءات العشر الكبرى، وقد توصل البحث إلى أن مصطلح القراءات العشر الصغرى والكبرى مصطلح متأخر، كما أن هناك فرقا بين مصطلحات المشارقة والمغاربة في القراءات القرآنية.
