هدف البحث إلى الكشف عن دلالات النعت عند النحويين وتتبع آثارها التركيبية، وهي: التخصيص والإيضاح والتعظيم والمدح والذم والترحم والتوكيد والتفصيل والتعميم والإبهام، وأبان البحث عن أنها - في مجملها - تقوم على مراعاة ما يحيط بالحدث الكلامي من حال المخاطب وحال المتكلم وموقف الخطاب والسياق اللغوي، وكشف عن آثارها في التركيب اللغوي عن طريق استنباط تلك الآثار التي وردت في شذرات متفرقة من مقولات النحويين، وخلص إلى حصر آثار كل دلالة من تلك الدلالات في التركيب اللغوي؛ إذ تبدت آثارها في أحكام النعت وبعض الوظائف النحوية الأخرى وبناء الأسلوب وتعدد أنماطه.
