Overview
ليس خفيا إن اختيار رئيس الدولة متنوعة ومختلفة باختلاف الأنظمة الدستورية، ففي ظل الأنظمة التي تتسم بالطابع الاستبدادي والدكتاتورية، لا تكون لإرادة الشعب أي حرية في اختيار رئيس الدولة، وإنما يتم الاختيار بطريقة غير مقيدة حسب مبادئ دستورية وديمقراطية كاوراثة والاستخلاف والتعيين بواسطة حاكم آخر والاستيلاء على الحكم بالقوة وكذلك القرعة. أما الأساليب الديمقراطية في اختيار رئيس الدولة، والتي يكون فيها الشعب صاحب السيادة الحقيقية، فالأساليب تكون متنوعة ومختلفة كالانتخاب بواسطة البرلمان.
