تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إثبات وجود المقدمة الغزلية في قصيدة الرثاء الهذلية، إذ إن القدماء وكثيرا من المحدثين أنكروا وجود مثل هذه المقدمة في قصائد الرثاء في العصر الجاهلي والعصور التي تلته، لأنها تتلاءم برأيهم مع مشاعر الفقه والأسى. درس البحث المقدمة الغزلية في قصائد الرثاء عند أبي ذؤيب وأبي صخر الهذلي بوصفه ما اثنين من شعرائهم المشهورين، وبين مدى علاقتها بموضوع الرثاء في شعرهما. وقد امتاز شعر قبيلة هذيل بهذا النمط من المقدمات ولاسيما شعر الرثاء.
