Overview
تناول البحث جانبا من الأحداث الكبرى التي وقعت في البصرة للمدة من رمضان سنة 255ه/ 869م إلى صفر سنة 270ه/ 833م، ألا وهي ثورة الزنج بقيادة زعيمها علي بن محمد بن عبد الرحيم، وتكاد المصادر تتفق على سير أحداث الثورة إلا أنها اختلفت حول نسب زعيمها، ومن هنا جاءت فكرة البحث حيث تطرق إلى الروايات المختلفة حول نسبه. وقد ناقش البحث روايات انتسابه للعلويين وموقف المصادر العلوية والعامة منها، ثم الروايات التي نسبته إلى عبد القيس والأخرى التي نسبته إلى الفرس، ثم موقف العلويين المعاصرين له من ذلك الادعاء.
