يتناول هذا المقال دور المنظمات الدولية الإقليمية في تطبيق مبدأ مسؤولية الحماية التي تبنته منظمة الأمم المتحدة خلال القمة العالمية 2005، وكمثال دراسة حالة المنظمة الدولية للفرانكفونية كإحدى المنظمات الرائدة التي تبنت هذا المفهوم من خلال إبراز التطور المؤسساتي في أهداف المنظمة من الوظيفة الثقافية اللغوية إلى الوظيفة السياسية، والذي سمح للمنظمة بتبني مبدأ مسؤولية الحماية والمساهمة في حل النزاعات الدولية وفقًا لمبدأ الوقاية.
