يتناول هذا المقال قضية مركزية في الفكر السوسيولوجي الغربي هي النزعة التاريخية، والتي لاقت معالجة مستفيضة في الفكر الغربي، وإن وقعت في مشكلات لم تتمكن من تجاوزها. والتي انتقلت إلى الفكر العربي الإسلامي عن طريق الحداثيين العرب ولم تلق نفس الاهتمام في الفكر العربي الحديث. كونها مبنية على مسلمة محل خلاف جوهري أساسها أن ما كان يبدو مطلقا متعاليا على التاريخ أصبح تاريخيا قابلا للتغيير. والهدف الذي يصبو هذا المقال بلوغه، هو تفكيك عناصر النزعة التاريخية بالشرح والتحليل، سواء في السوسيولوجيا الغربية أو في الفكر العربي الحديث.
