تغيا هذا النفس الكتابي مطارحة التخليط الذي طال حقلي: اللسانيات التطبيقية وتعليمية اللغات اصطلاحا وأفهوما وإجراء لدى المتخصصين، بَلهَ طلابنا في الجامعات، حيث بدأ توظيفهما غير الموفق في المقررات والحجرات الصفية بمرجعيات وجهاز مصطلحي وأفهومات مساوقة ومناهج ووسائل واحدة. والحق أن ما يفرقهما أكبر بكثير مما يجمعهما. وعليه؛ نروم وضع القارئ أمام جملة من المقدمات النظرية والمنهجية التي يمكن أن تشكل منطلقا للنظر والتساؤل والتحليل، حول تداخل التخصصين وجوهرهما، وعما إذا كانا تخصصين واصفين (Meta-discipline)، أم مستقلين، أم علمين وسيطين (بين- تخصصيين)؟
